에이블톤 컴프레서 사이드 체인 (Ableton Compressor Sidechain)

에이블톤에서 컴프레서와 사이드 체인을 사용하는 방법에 대해 알아보자.

1. Compressor란?

컴프레서는 해당 주파수에서 일정 데시벨이 넘으면, 그 소리를 줄여주는 역할을 한다. 예전에 컴프레서의 역할을 잘 몰라서 마스터 볼륨에서 빨간 색이 떴는데도 그냥 뒀다. 그 상태에서 음원으로 뽑아보니 노이즈가 발생하는 등 깔끔하지 못했다. 그러므로 컴프레서의 역할은 중요하다고 할 수 있다. 

The compressor serves to reduce the sound when it exceeds a certain decibel at the corresponding frequency.

 

 

 

 

2. 몇 용어와 Attack

몇 가지 용어는 다음과 같다.

Some terms are as follows.

thresh	경곗값
ratio	압축비율
Gain reduction	압축량을 실시간으로 확인할 수 있음
attack	천천히 압축되고 풀림

Attack 값이 작을수록 수직에 가깝게 압축된다. 

The smaller the attack value, the more vertically compressed it is.

오른쪽 버튼들의 기능은 다음과 같다.

peak	피트뛴걸 바로 잡아줌
rms	부드럽게
expand	오히려 증가시킴

 

 

 

2. SideChain

특히, 에이블톤의 컴프레서에서 왼쪽 상단의 화살표를 누르면 SideChain 기능을 사용할 수 있다. 

In particular, the side chain function can be used by pressing the arrow on the upper left side of the Ableton compressor.

SideChain은 input 트랙을 설정하고, 그 트랙과 겹쳐서 피크 뛰는 부분만 컴프레서 시킬 수 있다. 

You can set the input track. You can compress only the peak part that overlaps with the track.

베이스와 드럼은 자주 겹쳐서 피크가 튀기 때문에, 컴프레서를 적용시켜서 더 깔끔하게 해줄 수 있다. 하지만 이 때, 베이스와 드럼 트랙을 SideChain으로 걸면 두 트랙이 겹쳐서 피크가 튈 때만 소리를 정리해줄 수 있다. 그러면 베이스만 들릴 때나 드럼 비트만 있을 때 등에는 소리가 감소하지 않는다. 이렇게 불필요하게 줄이지 않아도 될 부분을 줄이는 일이 발생하지 않게 만들어줄 수 있다. 

Since the base and the drum often overlap and the peak pops, a compressor can be applied to make it cleaner. But at this time, if you hang the base and drum tracks as SideChain, you can only organize the sound when the two tracks overlap and the peak pops. Then, the sound does not decrease when only the bass is heard or when only the drum beat is heard. It can prevent such unnecessary reduction of parts that do not need to be reduced.
